Lake Hiawatha Cleanup

Lake Hiawatha Park, Minneapolis
Saturday, August 19, 2017 10:00 am – 12:00 pm

An essential part of keeping our waters clean is to pick-up trash along the shores and in the water. Join us for this free, family-friendly clean-up in Minneapolis on Saturday, August 19! We will focus on cleaning up Lake Hiawatha in Minneapolis and by collecting, weighing, and disposing of trash. Bring your friends and compete to see who can win a prize for collecting the most trash or the most unusual item. Everyone has a chance to win the grand prize – a hammock from REI! (retail value $219).

Want to bike to the event? We'll have a free bike check for your convenience.

Want to clean up trash in the water? You can hop onboard a canoe from Wilderness Inquiry, or bring your own canoe, kayak, or paddleboard.

Want to clean and stencil neighborhood storm drains? We have all the supplies you'll need, including the spray paint.

”Lake Hiawatha Cleanup" is part of “Jump In & Make a Splash!” - a series of community events across the watershed celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Minnehaha Creek Watershed District. The series concludes with the Sunset Celebration on Thursday, November 2 at St. Mary’s Greek Orthodox Church in Minneapolis, featuring live music, food and drink. Tickets are $40. People who attend at least five events qualify for half-price admission and those who attend all nine events get in for free!

The event is sponsored by MCWD and Target, in partnership with the Freshwater Society, 1-800-GOT-JUNK?, Berne Scale, REI, Wilderness Inquiry, Three Rivers Park District, and Tonka Bay Marina.
